Types of tapes
Parcel tape
The best product to use as parcel tape is a tape with a width of between 4 to 5 cm. The idea is to use vinyl or nylon tape to securely seal any opening and edge of your parcel.
Our packaging tape is the perfect application for this purpose and whether you use it at the office or have other parcel requirements, packaging tape will seal the deal.
Packaging tape
Packing up? Using your holiday gift-wrapping tape will not do the trick! Packaging tapes are the right solution for you and are the easy way to ensure that your package content remains secure.
With reliable product strength, the Transparent Vinyl Tape and Buff Vinyl packaging tape (in different sizes and widths) have been designed as the ideal product tape to wrap any packages and seal any surfaces.
Speciality tapes
The 3M Silver Duct Tape is a speciality tape that everyone should stock somewhere at home. It is robustly strong and ideal for the diverse use of many applications.
Whether you want to wrap cords, remove sticker residue, seal cracks in plastic or patch a hold, duct tape is one of the stickiest friends you can have in supply. It is waterproof but susceptible to prolonged heat exposure which could cause the adhesive to melt, so make sure you read the product leaflet.
Masking tape
Masking tape is mainly used by painters to tape off areas or surfaces before applying paint. It is wide enough and easy to tear to make use of it super seamless, and you don’t need scissors to cut it. It is a big roll with single-sided adhesive which is easy to remove and lift from any surface after application, leaving you with no sticky adhesive residue.
The Indasa MTG General purpose masking tape is great for protecting areas, thanks to its high-performance material and premium refinish grade.
Protective film tapes
If you need to protect a surface that is susceptible to damage, you’ll want protective film tapes. Our range of the Avanti Low tack Black protection tapes is guaranteed not to tear, helping to protect delicate surfaces such as that of a vehicle.
Adhesive tapes
Most tapes are adhesive tapes and other than double-sided tape, tapes are usually single-sided with adhesive.
The full range of tapes available online are all adhesive tapes and other than the prices and uses differing, you can use your stronger adhesive tapes outside the scope of purpose if it's an emergency. For example, use duct tape for packaging, if you don't have packaging tape or parcel tape in stock.
VHB tapes
VHB foam tapes are acrylic tapes and are the trusted choice for a strong reliable bond to any surface with a high peel adhesion. It can attach to a range of materials such as metals, glass, and plastics.
Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, it is an excellent alternative to liquid adhesives and mechanical fasteners. We stock a range of sizes to choose from here at BND Abrasives.
Types of tape adhesives
When choosing any of the tapes in our full range of tape products, keep in mind that the adhesive on the tape is temperature reliant and whether it’s hot or cold, your adhesive tapes will respond accordingly.
Duct tape for example is waterproof, but if it is exposed to water or even submerged under water for prolonged periods, the adhesive will lose strength and dissolve eventually.
VHB foam tape is your best bet for a strong adhesive as it is, after all, a very high-bond tape that attaches and sticks to a range of surfaces and materials, both in and outdoors.
FAQs
Is adhesive tape permanent?
Not all adhesive tapes are permanent. The majority of standard adhesive tapes are used for temporary solutions. Should you require a permanent bond tape, then double-sided tape is your starting point, alternatively VHB tape. Even with permanent bonds, the adhesive in tapes is usually for light-duty mounting or attachment.
Is packing tape the same as parcel tape?
Depending on the product you buy, and the item or product you wish to tape up, parcel tapes and packaging tapes are very similar. Whilst parcel tape is better for lighter packages, packing tape is specifically manufactured to seal boxes and storage cartons for prolonged periods.
What is masking tape used for?
Discover the uses of masking tape by using it on glass, placing masking tape on the wall when you are drilling a hole, and custom-making a safe hiding place for little things you want to keep together by simply wrapping it in masking tape. And the list goes on!
Is masking tape the same as painters’ tape?
Masking tape is referred to as painter's tape as painters use it when painting surfaces. You don't have to have your house painted to stock masking tape in your cupboard, as seen from the many uses of masking tape in the above question!
Is masking and duct tape the same?
No. Masking tape is not as strong as duct tape; they're complete opposites. Where masking tape is used to measure off areas or protect surfaces, as it lifts and is removed without any effort, duct tape is used to seal surfaces or even patch holes.
