August Wandmacher developed an essential cornerstone for the production of abrasives in 1899. The sanding pad for leather finishing that he obtained utility model protection for in the same year. The production of abrasives has played a part in the history of the Lower Saxon town of Hann. Münden since the subsequent founding of the company under the same name – “A. Wandmacher & Co.” – in 1900. At that time, the founder of the company set an important goal: abrasives have to be as strong as a lion to meet the tough demands of abrasive applications. Strong and rough to control even the hardest materials, tough and durable to continuously withstand even the longest sanding processes, and of course also delicate to give a perfect finish to even the most sensitive surfaces. However, these properties had to be guaranteed, especially with a prerequisite for maximum reliability and consistent quality at all times, because “with great power comes great responsibility.” We work together with you to develop the right solution for your surface and are on hand to offer advice and support. Our customer-focused applications engineering team also provides advice on site, directly at the machine. In this way, we ensure the best possible level of assistance for specific applications or technical problems. Taking these quality characteristics into account, AWUKO ABRASIVES can truly be described as “the lion among abrasives,” which is also clearly reflected in the logo of the nearly 120-year old traditional company. The medium-sized family-owned company with over 170 employees, known today as AWUKO ABRASIVES Wandmacher GmbH & Co. KG, is now one of the world’s leading manufacturers of quality abrasives with a focus on wood and leather finishing.
